Paul German

Chief Executive Officer

Paul is an experienced sales focused CEO with over 20 years experience in selling, marketing, implementing and supporting networking and security technologies.

Paul prides himself with building great teams, knowing the right team will ultimately make the company successful. With Paul’s broad background in sales and marketing, operations, technology management, design and development he is able to bring teams together and lead successfully, establishing a solid foundation for future growth.

Paul joined Certes in January 2015 where he initially led the EMEA region growing revenues 50% and establishing key relationships selling into multiple vertical markets, on which further success will be scaled.

Before joining Certes, Paul most recently founded and grew a VoIP Security company which successfully established itself as the first Freemium VoIP Security vendor in the market obtaining over 500 product downloads in its first 12 months.

Prior to this, Paul ran the EMEA region for Sipera (acquired by Avaya in 2011) successfully growing the business in the region from zero revenue in 2008 to being the top performing region for the company on acquisition.

Prior to Sipera, in 2005 Paul started, grew, and sold a technology consultancy business delivering services into Fortune 100 companies, specialising in designing and delivering Voice over IP and security technologies.

And prior to this, Paul held roles in financial services companies such as Lehman Brothers and BNP Paribas, as a technology executive owning and managing networking and security technologies. Paul also spent three years with Cisco working in the Service provider line of business selling to Worldcom (Verizon).

Paul is a graduate of Brunel University, London.

Jim is a results driven senior sales and operations technology executive with experience in both large corporate and small startup environments. Jim has executive leadership in all aspects of sales management functions, driving sales teams to achieve extraordinary results, rapid growth, turning around underperforming sales teams, and complete Profit & Loss (P&L) management.

Jim has worked international sales, business development, strategic partnerships and operations in over 20 countries globally giving him a broad experience in leadership including sales, sales operations, corporate strategy, corporate development, product management, industry solutions, value added service, and global operations.

With over 30 years of experience leading sales teams to growth of both product and services revenue consistently and predictably, Jim has a proven track record of increasing revenue and profitable bottom line growth, while spearheading operational improvements. Jim’s extensive expertise in various IT segments includes IT strategy development, software/hardware infrastructure, Voice/Data Networks, IP Telephony, Video Tele-Conferencing, Software Defined Networking, Hyper-converged Computing; Private, Public, and Hybrid Cloud Technologies, Network Security, SaaS, and overall IT related services.

Jim is a recognized motivational leader with a reputation as a strategic thought leader who has a hands-on tactical execution that constantly delivers results, increase annual revenues, gross margin, drives change, and develops and attracts ‘best-in-class” talent.

Jim has successful experience in Private Equity and Venture Capital backed companies, raising capital, mergers and acquisitions, mature companies, rapid growth companies, restructured organizations, successful sale of organizations and other strategic exits.

Gary Brunner

Gary Brunner

CFO and Sr. Vice President of Operations

Gary brings over 25 years of finance, operations and management experience to the team at Certes Networks. Prior to joining Certes Networks, Gary served as the Sr. Vice President of Finance and Operations at Netronome Systems, a developer and supplier of network flow processors and acceleration cards in network and communication devices. Previously, he served as the Vice President of Finance at Precise Technology Inc (acquired by Rexam Inc. in 2005) that was a consumer and medical packaging supplier. Gary also served as Partner and CFO at G4 Partners, an early stage private equity fund, from 2000 to 2002. He held the positions of Vice President, Treasurer and Corporate Controller during his tenure at FORE Systems Inc., a developer and manufacture of high-speed networking equipment that grew from a small start-up to a company with annual sales of $632 million. Gary held various finance positions at technology companies in both the Pittsburgh and Washington DC areas previous to joining FORE Systems. Gary holds a B.S. in Business Administration from Robert Morris University.

Ganesh Murugesan

Ganesh Murugesan

Vice President of Engineering

Ganesh comes to Certes Networks with over 20 years of professional experience both as Technical Manager and Software Architect in developing key networking solutions for the Service Provider and Enterprise markets. Prior to Certes, Ganesh worked as Technical Manager and Principal Architect at ECI Telecom, leading a team of engineers in developing MPLS based L2 services on ECIs flagship Carrier Ethernet (CESR) platforms. Ganesh also developed multiple networking protocols and services including RSVP-TE, LDP, MPLS, L2TP, GRE, ATM on their Multi-Service Edge Router, while employed at Laurel Networks and FORE systems. Earlier, Ganesh was also employed at Trusted Information System (Acquired by McAfee) where he developed key components of the Trusted MACH (B3 level security) and Gauntlet (the world’s first gateway firewall) products. Ganesh has been awarded multiple patents for his innovations. Ganesh holds an M.S in Computer Science from State University of New York, Albany, and also holds an Undergraduate degree in Computer Science and Engineering from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore.

Dan Panesar

GM/VP - EMEA

Dan has a real passion and love for sales and this is reflected by more than 12 very successful years in various leading-edge technology sales roles. His focus was end-user direct touch new business sales before progressing into sales leadership with innovative cyber security start-up Sipera Systems. Sipera Systems was the first worldwide market leader in solutions for the rapid, simple and secure adoption of Unified Communications (UC). Many FTSE100 organisations with thousands of users around the globe deployed Sipera to secure VoIP, IP video, collaboration, messaging applications. Backed by a number of high profile VCs including Sequoia Capital, Dan recruited and led the EMEA high-touch sales team, where he was responsible for driving direct customer engagement and all aspects of the sales strategy. Sipera Systems achieved huge success and in late 2011 was acquired by Avaya Inc., one of the largest Unified Communications and Contact Center software vendors in the world, for a double digit multiple. At Avaya, Dan continued to lead the new Real Time Application and Identity Access Management security division for EMEA. Over the next 4 years Dan and his team delivered significant and consistent YoY double-digit revenue growth. After leaving Avaya prior to joining Certes, Dan has been advising and working with a number of UK-based cyber security start-ups through the Cylon – (Cyber London) accelerator program.

Michael T. Kane

Chairman of the Board, Certes Networks | Founder and Managing Director, Kestrel Investments

Mike Kane is the founder and president of Kestrel Investments, a single family office near Philadelphia investing in real assets and in alternative investments.  Previously, he served as Vice-President of Finance for Kane Is Able, Inc., a third-generation family-owned logistics company. Mike has served in senior management of operating companies, and has also been an entrepreneur.

Mike is a Leaders Council member of PathNorth, a national CEO group, a member of the Business Leaders Network, a Philadelphia CEO group, and an active participant in the Institute for Private Investors, where he is a member of the Advisory Faculty.  In addition to Certes, Mike serves on the board of PharmMD, a Nashville healthcare company.  Mike is an advisor to the Ben Franklin Technology Partners IT Investment Committee, and has previously been the vice-president of a Pennsylvania land trust. He holds an undergraduate degree from Georgetown University and a Ph.D. in philosophy from Boston College.

Thomas Satterfield Jr.

Co-founder and Chief Investment Officer of the Caldwell Mill Opportunity Fund

Thomas Satterfield Jr. has been an active personal investor for 50 years. After attending the University of Alabama from 1972 to 1974, Mr. Satterfield started his career at Madix Store Fixtures, Inc., a privately held manufacturer of metal store fixtures.  In 1976, Mr. Satterfield co-founded ZZYZZX Technologies, Inc. (No. 49 on the INC. Magazine 500 in 1983), where he served as Chief Financial Officer from 1976 to 1986.  Mr. Satterfield was a licensed securities analyst with Smetek Van Horn & Cormack in Houston, Texas from 1987 to 1990.  In 1990, Mr. Satterfield co-founded Satterfield & Pontikes Construction, Inc., one of the largest general contractors in Houston, Texas, and he served as Chairman and Chief Financial Officer of this company from 1990 to 1997.  In 1997, Mr. Satterfield started managing personal and family investments on a full-time basis with approximately $2 million in assets under management. Today, Mr. Satterfield manages a portfolio valued at approximately $150 million in assets under management (after over $25 million in net distributions over this time period).  Mr. Satterfield began his investment career at age 13.  At the age of 18, he became the youngest graduate of the Stock Market Institute Course on Technical Analysis.  Mr. Satterfield serves as the Fund’s Chief Investment Officer. Mr. Satterfield currently serves on the Board of Assemble Systems, a Houston based construction software company, is President of Tomsat Investments & Trading Co., Managing Investment Partner of AG Family L.P., President of the General Partner of Satterfield Vintage Investments (non-public investments) and was the lead shareholder in the Stone Energy Ad Hoc Committee.  Mr. Satterfield has been married for over 39 years, has one adult child and has lived in Birmingham, Alabama for the past 18 years.

Douglas Smith

Founder and President, Vanguard Investment Company

Doug was a merger & acquisition specialist with Warburg, Paribas, Becker in New York prior to founding Vanguard Investment Company, a Dallas, Texas based private equity firm in 1983. Vanguard has invested in retail, manufacturing, services, financial services, oil & gas production, and a variety of technology businesses. Doug currently serves as Chairman of Hirsh Industries, Blocksom & Company, Everest Group, Valid Systems, Import Merchandising Concepts, Rymed Technologies, Diagnostics Direct, and Charis Oil & Gas.

Doug has a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering from Northwestern University and a Masters of Business Administration with distinction from Harvard Business School.

John Gerdelman

John has a broad and successful career as an executive and board member in the networking industry. From 1986 until 1999, John held various positions with MCI Communications Corporation, including President of the Network and Information Technology Division, and has served as CEO of Long Lines Limited, a regional telecommunications company. John also co-founded and served as Chairman of Intelliden (acquired by IBM), a software solutions company for carriers. From April 2002 to December 2003, he was the Chief Executive Officer for Metromedia Fiber Networks (now AboveNet), and also chaired Looking Glass Networks, acquired by Level 3.

John received his B.S. degree in chemistry from the College of William and Mary, where he now serves as Chair of the Real Estate Foundation. John also currently serves as a Chairman of the Board for Overture Networks and as Director of Brocade Communications, Owens and Minor, Long Lines Limited and Local Voice Media. He is an industry adviser to Blue Heron Capital.
